Matted coat recovery
For a coat that has gone past brushing: a comfort-first clip and a plan to grow it back properly.
When a coat has felted to the skin, brushing it out hurts and is usually not possible. We clip under the matting with the shortest blade the coat allows, checking the skin as we go, because what is underneath is often red and sore. Your dog goes home shorter than you wanted and considerably more comfortable than it arrived. This is the service that started the salon: the first thing Chloe ever clipped was a client's felted fringe, done the same careful way, on the salon floor rather than a table.

Am I going to be told off?
No. Coats get away from people, especially after a busy few months. We care about the next six months, not the last six.

Can you brush it out instead of clipping?
Sometimes, if the matting is loose and the dog is patient. If it is tight to the skin, brushing it out would hurt and we will not do it.

How short will my dog end up?
As short as the matting demands, and we will tell you the likely blade before we start. It grows back, and it grows back better.
