A light leave-in spray to work through a dry coat before you brush it, the same idea as a leave-in conditioner for hair. Most owners of longer-coated dogs are missing exactly this.

We book slower for exactly this reason
A dog that has never been on a table, or one that has had a bad groom before, gets the quiet slot at the start or end of the day, not a squeeze between two other bookings. Puppies get three short visits before a real groom is ever attempted.
